Art Auction

For the 3rd year in a row, there will be an Art auction held at Posada Java to benefit the Food Bank. It will be held on Friday, Jan. 19th, 2018 from 6-8 P.M. Donations of paintings are needed, and can be dropped off at our SRAL studio. The back of the donation should have the artist’s name, name of the painting, and the (ordinarily) suggested price for the piece. In the past, several thousand dollars has been raised for this cause, and it creates a great reputation for the quality of our work. Only one painting per artist is needed.

Thank you,
Harriet Ayer

Design Study Group

This is to announce the dissolution of the Design Study Group. I have talked to Susan Ettl and Betsy Kimbrough who lead the Collage Mixed Media Group; and since we overlap in many ways, we have agreed to integrate the study of design and composition into CMM. Please join me there. Thanks for everything,
Jean Makela

New Oil Painting Group

Beginning in September 2017, the Oil Painters of the Art League (OPAL) will be meeting at the SRAL studio on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 10am to 1pm. This new, special interest group will be open to all SRAL members who wish to learn the art of oil painting and to those painters who wish to expand their knowledge and skills.

JOYCE'S CORNER

Have you ever wondered what the Santa Rita Art League is about?

Was your first thought “Art?” Maybe it was people or friends. Well, that would be true but being a Club or organization of Green Valley Recreation means we must have a purpose and that is formally called our Mission.

Mission The mission of the Santa Rita Art League of GVR is to promote an awareness, appreciation, and development of talent for all two-dimensional fine art forms. This provides us with a vision and focus. Promoting… awareness, appreciation, and development of talent for all forms of two-dimensional fine art forms. How do we do this Promoting? Let us count the ways! Watch for Promoting… in our EBlasts!

Promoting… Our Studio! We are fortunate to have a well-equipped studio for the use of all our members. It has three rooms and a kitchen and library. We have tables, chairs, easels, matt making table, computer and printers, a printing press, lockers and slots to rent for storage, and so many other tools to help you with producing your art. It is a place for us to come to paint. This is where we go to meet other artists, make friends, take part in all the groups, workshops and activities we offer. We are warm and welcoming people like you!

Phil Starke

"How to Suggest Light" Phil will demonstrate how to "see" in terms of simple shapes and values which makes it easier to think about color.

Phil grew up in a military family where he spent several years in Europe and was influenced by the museums and art work he was exposed to. He attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago where he studied figure painting and drawing.

After living and painting in the mid west for a number of years he and his family moved to Tucson AZ. The southwest, with its vast resources of subject matter is a great inspiration for his work. Phil takes several painting trips a year through out the southwest as well as Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado.

Aside from the pure joy and excitement of painting his surroundings, Phil's goal in painting is to try and reflect some of the Gods glory in his creation.

Phil teaches workshops around the country and for Scottdale Artists School and the Tucson Art Academy.
